The City of Vacaville is currently recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy for Utility Plant Electrician I/II in the Utilities Department. This recruitment process will also establish an eligibility list, which may be used to fill future vacancies within the next twelve (12) months.The current vacancy, as well as future vacancies, may be filled at either level depending on the needs of the department.  

 Salary: 

Utility Plant Electrician I - $5,624.30 - $6,836.36/month 
Utility Plant Electrician II - $6,045.77 - $7,348.63/month 

Utility Plant Electricians perform or assist in the development and construction of new electrical systems and maintenance, repair or replacement of electrical equipment (less than 600 volts) employed in the operation of water and wastewater treatment, pumping, and storage facilities. Utility Plant Electrician I is the entry-level class in the series. Although employees assigned to this class are required to have a basic familiarity of water and wastewater electrical systems and practices, this class is considered a training class.  Utility Plant Electrician II is the journey level class in the Utility Plant Electrician series requiring additional experience and a broader scope of responsibility to the tasks assigned.  Persons assigned to this classification are required to have a working knowledge of water and wastewater equipment maintenance practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Utility Plant Electrician I: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to acquire the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; additional technical school, apprenticeship, or college-level course work related to plant electrical systems is highly desirable.
Experience: One year of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment in a water and/or wastewater treatment plant; or in an industrial environment performing installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Certificate: Possession of the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Plant Maintenance Grade I Certificate is highly desirable. License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. 

Utility Plant Electrician II Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to acquire the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; additional technical school, apprenticeship, or college-level course work related to plant electrical systems is highly desirable. Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment in a water and/or wastewater treatment plant; or in an industrial environment performing installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES Certificate: Possession of the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Plant Maintenance Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist Grade II Certificate is highly desirable. 
License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Performs tasks requiring: strength and stamina, such as lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; sitting, standing, walking on uneven or slippery surfaces, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, and grasping; ascending and descending stairs and ladders; work both inside and outside with exposure to weather, odors, dust, and pollen; exposure to chemicals, skin irritants, fumes and solvents; frequent and repetitive hand and arm motion; hand and finger dexterity sufficient to use small tools; the ability to see well enough to read gauges and documents; the ability to distinguish colors; the ability to communicate verbally, including projecting a voice that can be heard in a noisy environment; the ability to hear and distinguish various sounds, such as alarms, voices of co-workers and sounds of operating equipment in both quiet and noisy environments; and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for job assignments. Must comply with respiratory program and Cal OSHA standards.

THE SELECTION PROCESS  All applications will be reviewed for minimum qualifications and only the best qualified will be invited to continue in the examination process. The examination process may consist of a performance exercise and an oral interview. The examination process will evaluate the following areas: 

Knowledge of: Methods, tools, and materials used in the development, construction and maintenance of electrical equipment employed in the operation of water and wastewater treatment, pumping, and storage facilities; basics of electrical theory and safe work practices; and computer applications relevant to maintenance functions. 

In addition, the Utility Plant Electrician must have knowledge of: NFPA codes 70, "National Electrical Code," and 70E "Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace." 

Ability to: Safely perform varied electrical skills; perform advanced, close tolerance work to a high level of accuracy; interpret technical manuals, drawings and specifications; read single line diagrams, ladder diagrams, and construction drawings; operate, interpret and act on results of electrical test equipment; keep accurate records; demonstrate aptitude in practical mathematics; understand and carry out oral and written directions; successfully coordinate work with and assistance of City staff, consultants, and contractors; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. 

In addition, the Utility Plant Electrician II must have the ability to: update technical manuals, drawings and specifications; create schematic and electrical diagrams; read single line diagrams, ladder diagrams, panel schedules, electrical layout plans, and construction drawings; demonstrate aptitude in practical mathematics; work independently.

Applicants receiving a conditional offer of employment must successfully complete the pre-placement process for this position before a final offer will be extended.  Pre-placement assessments for this position include a Livescan (FBI/DOJ fingerprint review), DMV record review, drug screen and medical exam.
